DVELAS® arises as a creative reaction to reuse a large amount of discarded material from the sail industry. When the sail of a ship breaks or suffers a scratch anywhere, all the fabric of Kevlar or carbon that makes up the structure must be discarded and replaced with a new one. DVELAS® is based on the design of furniture, mainly, using discarded boat sails that still have their fabric material in good conditions of durability and resistance, and that retain an appropriate aesthetic (brands, logos, numbers, colors…). The fabrics are not used as a coating on a surface. On the contrary, the goal is to keep them working the same as when they were on the ship to make the most of the material. Therefore, it is ensured that the material is always in tension against tensile stresses on the different products. The products are made with birch wood structures on which the fabrics are attached. This material is manufactured in plywood boards glued with phenolic resins, which are cut in a numerical control milling plotter to allow maximum use of the material. Both materials are perfect for dealing with outdoor weather conditions, so they can be used both indoors and outdoors.
